Bridging the Gap: Empowering Eating Disorder Professionals to Navigate the Complex Intersection of CIRS & Recovery.
Hello, I am glad you are here! First of all, I want to thank you for the incredible work you are doing with your clients. You are valuable and are truly making a deep impact, and I say this from both personal and professional experience.
As a consultant, I work with therapists, dietitians, and treatment centers to educate on the impact of CIRS, how to identify clients who may have this condition, and what this looks like in the treatment process, so that you can improve your client outcomes and see more people truly heal.
I am not sure if you know about CIRS? It is an illness that impacts about 24% of the population. It encompasses a genetic component where the gene is activated, which can happen through times of stress, illness, trauma, etc, and once this gene is activated, the body is not able to detox a variety of environmental toxins. This leads to systemic inflammation and multi system damage. There is an overlap of clients who struggle with eating disorders, or disordered eating, who are then also diagnosed with CIRS.
We know that eating disorders are complex, and while not every client with an eating disorder will have CIRS, it is important to know when to screen for this condition and how to effectively help clients who you are seeing.
Do you experience clients with eating disorders who:
Have been diagnosed with an auto immune illness (or several) and are not experiencing a reduction in symptoms regardless of many doctor’s appointments?
Are considered chronic in their eating disorder journey?
Are highly sensitive, have experienced trauma, and something seems to keep them “stuck” in their recovery journey?
How will consulting help?
When you know how to navigate the complexities of Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) & eating disorders, you will be able to:
Design comprehensive care plans for clients.
Understand the stress of nutrition needs for clients with CIRS without triggering disordered eating behaviors.
Identify triggers specific to the interplay of CIRS and eating disorders.
Guide clients in developing a healthier relationship with their body, even amid physical changes caused by CIRS.
Guide clients in developing a healthier relationship with their body, even amid physical changes caused by CIRS.
Learn how to integrate care with medical doctors, dietitians, and therapists to ensure clients receive holistic support.
At the end of the day, I want you to know:
Your clients need you! By learning and understanding the interplay of eating disorders and CIRS, you will be able to more effectively help your complex clients reach lasting recovery!
